Overview

Tokyo, formerly Edo, is depicted in ukiyo-e prints illustrating the seven mysteries of Honjo, including "Ashiarai-tei," a story of a girl who ventures into a haunted house to raise money for her mother's medicine and becomes prey to monsters. Historically in Japan, yokai haunted various places, including a man returning from Osaka who stayed in a terrifying inn called "Under the Ceiling," where he had a frightening night with monsters.
